Interview with Mats Dietrich from RheinRiff
The RheinRiff in one to three sentences?
Mats: An event and sports location with artificial waves, beach volleyball, a large beach club and the home of Endless Summer.
Your favorite place at Areal Böhler when it's not RheinRiff? Is there a particular place that you particularly like?
Mats: My favorite place is of course the RheinRiff. How could it be otherwise? Anyone who gets to work in a beach club has that as their favorite place. But if you ask me what comes next, I would personally say lunch break at Fatih. Because it's just a great atmosphere there. You somehow meet all kinds of people at lunch and I'm a big fan of it. I also really like Italian food.

Have you ever taken part in events or activities at Areal Böhler? If so, how did you like them?
Mats: Well, of course we haven't been there that long, we're still in our first year. But the one thing we did take part in as a team was the Christmas market, for example, where we enjoyed drinking lots of mulled wine and had a great time. In general, I think the program that has been added now is something we always enjoy visiting. And the Christmas market in particular is of course a highlight for us, because we can pop in as a team after work. We've really enjoyed it. It's a lot of fun because the whole setup is nice, because it feels Christmassy and also gives us the opportunity to quickly combine work and private life.
How would you describe the Areal Böhler in three words?
Mats: The Areal in three words? Lots of potential.

Why is the Areal Böhler the perfect location for RheinRiff? So why did you choose this location?
Mats: In general, the infrastructure is extremely exciting. The fact that we are in a great location in terms of the mix of Düsseldorf and Meerbusch. At the same time, the traffic management is great. We have public transportation right around the corner. Then, of course, you need a lot of space for what we had in mind. And we found it here. And with such a crazy project, you also have to find a partner who says we're up for it. All in all, Düsseldorf as a location is incredibly exciting and very lively. And that's why I think it can be summed up quite well that we were simply convinced by the location itself and the potential that the area has. And of course it is also relatively central with its proximity to the airport, the city center, Meerbusch, Düsseldorf, Krefeld, the Ruhr area is just around the corner. So all in all, I don't think you can complain about the catchment area. And the Dutch come over too!
Do you have any special experiences or anecdotes during your time as tenants on the site? Anything funny?
Mats: I don't know if it's a special anecdote, but for us of course, as very young tenants, the absolute highlight was the grand opening, where we also had a lot of partner tenants on the site, so the drummers from Wadokyo, who then drummed in our beach club, Enkelson, a Düsseldorf singer, who sang with us and we just got incredibly great feedback, especially at the opening. I think the anecdotes, the classic events that take place, are often the most important for us. For example, a neighborhood festival, the first one was really, really fantastic. Those are the normal anecdotes. When it comes to funny anecdotes on the site, I can say that it took us a really long time to find our post at the beginning. When not everyone knew where RheinRiff was, we often had to go in search of where all our parcels were, but we found that everyone was very friendly and helped us.

Keyword future plans. Are there three things you would like to see in the area or something we can improve?
Mats: The whole issue of movement and how the whole thing can develop is exciting for us. Above all, this also means for us, how do I get from the gate to the RheinRiff? If there were a mobility concept, that could be very exciting for us to say that a bit more is happening in terms of mobility. Whether it ends up being an e-scooter or a shuttle that drives autonomously. An even better overview of the hall, making everything even more visible and otherwise we're primarily curious to see who else will join us as tenants. But the wishes are relatively wide-ranging. From great restaurants to more sports facilities and other exciting projects that we can't even imagine yet. We're looking forward to everything that's coming.
Finally, do you have anything you would like to share with other tenants on the Areal or tips and advice for potential tenants?
Mats: We are happy to welcome anyone who wants to come by. And anyone who has questions about life on the Areal can get in touch with us at any time. We've been very happy so far!
